Thankful For Another Day
If God wakes us up the first thing that we should do is thank Him for another day. If He wakes us up clothed in our right mind and with all our faculties intact, even more reason to.
We tend to take the gift of another day for granted. The fact is that anything can happen at any time. All of us can think of people who woke up with us one day and did not see the next. It is a depressing thought but true.
So, when we wake up in the morning, we should be grateful for the opportunity to have a clean slate. No matter what has happened all those yesterdays, today is a new day. A day that we have never seen before. A chance to do something meaningful.
Though trials and tribulations may come our way during the day, there are always blessings that present themselves. It may be a little thing like a phone call from someone we have not talked to in a while. The joy of seeing a little child smile. The opportunity to help a neighbor, friend or even a stranger. There are no small blessings.
Every day that we are given is a chance to make ourselves better people. We are given the chance to become better parents, siblings, friends, classmates and workmates. We may learn a new skill. Opportunities to better educate ourselves may arrive. Chances to teach others occur all of the time.
Every day a new canvas is given to us to paint however we want. Use whatever brush, whatever colors. It is all there for us.
And every day that we are given is a gift from God. It is only by His grace that it happens. And it is only by grace that we are allowed to see it through.
So, during the day, we should take an opportunity to get closer to Him. We have the time to do it. No matter what is going on in our lives we can set aside time to devote to God. It can be first thing in the morning. It could be at lunchtime. It could be before going to bed. It could be prayer, bible study, worship or just listening for His voice.
There are twenty-four hours in a day. Seven days a week. This means there are 168 hours in a week. If we spend just one hour a day getting closer to God (though He deserves much more) we still have 161 hours to do whatever we want. Seven hours is not much.
But it is worth using them to thank God for another day.
