Thinking On Our Own
The blogs on this site are in no way written to think for those who read them. They are only written to give all of us something to think about. They are not written to tell people what to do, but to give ideas on how we can live our lives. It is the hope that all open their minds before reading them. Then make conscious decisions.
Thinking on our own seems as if it is becoming harder to do in this age of media. Too often we tend to believe or disbelieve what we see and hear without checking facts. If it sounds good to us and fits our beliefs we accept it. If it does not, then we reject it. If we like the person speaking, we are more inclined to believe them. If we do not, then less inclined. Maybe we don’t want the truth. Maybe we want what we believe to be the truth.
There is an old saying. What is right is not always popular and what is popular is not always right. One can make the case that we are moving towards making the popular right. Especially when it is given to us in bight sized media clips. Anyone can edit anything and make us believe it. Truth is often hidden or left on the cutting room floor.
It is also hard not to go with the crowd. There are times in life where we do things even when we know they are not right to fit in. We also ask people to do things that are not right. Peer pressure affects us from an early age.
We also surround ourselves with like-minded people who think and act like us. We try to put ourselves in settings that are comfortable. We watch news outlets that tell us what we want to hear.
But sometimes it is better to separate ourselves from the crowd. To leave the noise behind (this will be a recurring theme on this site.) To find or create a quiet place to think.
Once we do this it is easier to listen to the true voice of guidance. It is easier to listen to God. He will guide our thinking to what is right not what we think is right. He will give us the entire truth. The more we listen the more we will accept it.
So, maybe we should take in information. Think about it. Then listen to God tell us the truth about what we hear. After we hear it, we accept it.
This may not be popular, but it is right.
